Auto-focus camera

Fri Mar 08, 2019 1:01 pm

Hello there,

I'm looking for a Raspberry Pi camera that have AF implemented.
I found nothing on the web, so I suppose it doesn't exist but it cost nothing to ask here :D
If there is no camera module, do you think I can use a USB camera instead?

Thanks.

Only the 2 official RPF cameras can be used in the RPi camera connection and they don't have AF. https://www.raspberrypi.org/products/
Many USB cameras do work in a RPi.
Unless specified otherwise my response is based on the latest and fully updated Raspbian Buster w/ Desktop OS.

Plus a few clones of the first version of the camera, but they don't have auto-focus either.

Hi, thanks for your answer.
My goal is to read the focus of the camera in order to access to the distance of my plan.
Do you have any idea if USB camera that have AF and access in reading to the focal data?
Thanks by advance!

You will have a bit of a problem here.

Depth of field will change depending on the aperture of the lens and it can be a significantly large region where everything is in focus. For example my SLR lens at f8 at 3m ‘focus distance’ has everything from 10cm to infinity in sharp focus.

Have a look at the first diagram here https://www.exposureguide.com/focusing-basics/

Im not trying to hijack or anything... im after autofocus cam module myself.

What about arducam's? they seems to have 5 and 8 mp autofocus ones.( http://www.arducam.com/product/motorize ... pberry-pi/ ).
I also found supertek web-site and they state that they have 5 mp module with autofocus for raspberry aswell ( https://www.supertekmodule.com/product- ... a-modules/ https://www.supertekmodule.com/wp-conte ... t-V2.1.pdf ) Never heard of them aswell as i dont see any of those selling unlike arducams...

Are those potentially worth getting if im after autofocus feature on raspberry? Have anyone tried any of those out yet?
