Bird boxes, Pi Zero and camera modules

Sun Nov 11, 2018 1:45 pm

Hello all,
My first post and I am asking for advice. I have a few bird & small mammal boxes in my garden with CV cameras. I have tried routing the feed via CV cables back to the house which is rather clumsy. I have also tried combining them and routing them through a balun & Cat5e cables but I am experiencing corrosion on the Cat5e contacts. So I thought that a Pi Zero W and camera module in each box transmitting to a wireless hub in the garden which was connected to a Cat5e router in the house might solve the problem. I appreciate that I would need to feed a 5v supply to each box which I can do from a supply in the garden. I am not clear as to what modules I would need to purchase for each box.

Great idea - I should do this for the upcoming year but like a lot of projects 'its in the pile'... Shame really, as I am sat here watching two squirrels feeding on nuts and various tits fighting over fat balls (as normal) all being ignored by the finches

From my bookmarks I have:

https://thepihut.com/products/naturebyt ... 8137973841 - was kickstarted and I missed it but this page is a handy 'shopping list' - the case comes from these folk http://naturebytes.org

https://shop.pimoroni.com/products/my-n ... _LEALw_wcB - nothing special but a handy place to get all the bits bar the housing in one

https://mynaturewatch.net - build site when it works. It has a habit of coming up with a black screen so just scroll down. If you start at https://mynaturewatch.net/make/ it seems to work better (think its the images and my Mac)
Need Pi spray - these things are breeding in my house...
