Where can I find a ribbon cable that I can use to extend the Pi Zero and Fish eye lens?

Wed May 23, 2018 10:07 pm

Currently working on my prototype and I realised that the zero cam fish eye lens's ribbon cable is shorter than what I require and want to be able to extend it.

I've already created a custom board that uses the Pi zero Camera connector and have also created an camera extender board which uses 2 of the Pi zero camera connectors. All I'm simply looking the ribbon cable that will connect between the two camera port connectors.

I've seen online you can get ribbon cables that have the RPI Zero connector on 1 end and a RPI 1.3V connector on the other, see below:
https://shop.pimoroni.com/products/came ... ro-edition

However I've haven't been able to find a ribbon cable that has the RPI zero connector on both ends.
Does any one know if there is ribbon cable that is already out on the market that can support this or know of how I could make my own custom one be it in Autodesk Eagle or contacting a manufacture to have 1 assembled?

Small update did some more digging about and changed keywords on google and I found the cable.

As we already know the Pi Zero Camera port connector is a 22 pin connector. All I had to do was search up 22 pin ribbon cable and it came with a bunch and I found one for amazon.

So pasting here for future reference to anyone else trying to find a cable extender and don't want to go down the route of buying a completely different cable.

I do not think the Raspberry Pi 2/3 cable will fit the Raspberry Pi Zero. The Zero's camera port appears to be narrower then the Pi 2/3 port.

Raspberry Pi Zero v1.3 Camera Cable

If one needs that cable extended, then there is the Adafruit CSI or DSI Cable Extender Thingy for Raspberry Pi

They also sell various lengths of CSI or DSI cables

See my previous post. I managed to answer my own question in the end.
The problem with going with adafruit is its more expensive to buy the board than to actually make it yourself.

So I chose to make my own equivalent board and combine it with my prototype board to cut costs down.

What I was originally after is a 22 pin ribbon cable that could connect from the PI zero camera connector to an 22 pin connector on an extension board which would then connect onto the pi zero camera. I achieved this by searching up 22 pin ribbon cable on google and found the above amazon link that I pasted in my 2nd post.

The problem with the cables they currently have available for the PI zero and Pi1.3 is that is converts from a 22 Pin to a 42 Pin

I would like to correct my previous post I ordered the above cables and then realised they were too big in size. This is because the Pi zero camera takes in a 22 pin with 0.5mm pitch and not the 1.0mm pitch I had previously posted up.

There are 2 options same side & reverse direction.
Same side means both connectors on either end are facing the same direction e.g. Up, whilst reverse means one connector is facing up whilst the other is facing down.

Both can be purchased below by choosing either one of the 2 links. This will lead you to Aliexpress.

Same Side: https://goo.gl/ap8kNg
Reverse: https://goo.gl/ejVjge

Here you can find different lengths; however all I've found so far is same side versions: https://goo.gl/wUHYXc
