v2.1 camera module, FSTROBE signal and pinnings

Thu Nov 16, 2017 4:24 pm

Dear all,

The raspberry pi camera module v2.1 had two "special" signals on the 15pin flat cable. This is at pin 11 and 12 (sometimes called CAM_GPIO and CAM_CLK but I don't know for sure). While the camera itself has two special pins one for the FSTROBE (the flash) and one GPO (not idea where that is for).

- I need the FSTROBE for connecting a flash light (and other things) but is this connected to one of the pins at the 15pin flat cable?
- What is the meaning of the pin 11 and 12 in case of the V2.1 sensor?
- If I capture a still image with "raspistill --raw -o image.jpg" will the FSTROBE be triggered and passed on to one of the pins of the flat cable, or is FSTROBE disabled by the driver of the IMX219?

The pin 11 & 12 (on the pi 3+ at least) are labeled GPIO 0 & 1 and connect to the V2.1 camera as "enable" on pin 11 - which turns on the camera power supplies, and pin 12 that's unused. You can see this by looking up the schematics of the pi 3 plus and the camera V2.1.

I'm noticing that there doesn't appear to be a flash signal coming back from the camera module itself, there's some 65 pins on the camera, but they come to a 30 pin connector - flash isn't one of the pins as far as I can tell so far. I'm looking now for a schematic of the camera module used on the 2.1 camera, but not having any luck.

Whoever makes the next version of the camera, please add the flash pin so that a hardware flash signal can be used in the system!

I cannot help with the v2 camera.

But there is a more expensive (20$) version of ov5647 module (v1 camera) for Raspberry (you can get v1 clones for 3$ these days).
That module exposes FREX (that was interesting to me) pin as well as STROBE: ... 3&t=235523

The imx219 strobe and gpo lines are not broken out from the sensor down the small flexi to the camera board, let alone down the 15pin flexi.

The two gpios from the pi to the camera used to be for the power enable and led signals on the camera board, but the led line is not used for the v2 sensor.
