Typical file size for JPEG image from V2 module

Mon May 15, 2017 12:53 pm

I'm looking to upgrade my raspberry pi storage with the view that I may add a camera module v2 at some point. I'd like to know what kind of average file sizes I would be looking at for a single, JPEG still image (8 megapixels, 3280 × 2464) from that module so I can look at how much storage I would need to fit my needs.

Thanks!

It is really very dependant on what you are photoing. For example lots of areas of same colour will probably result in smaller file sizes.

And you can use the -q option alter the quality the JPEG codec is trying to encode to.
1-2MB is generally pretty good quality, or allow up to 4MB to retain as much detail as possible.
