Another motion detection implementation

Fri Apr 07, 2017 5:43 pm

ALTmotion uses simple, fast to compute, integral measures for the "amount of motion" in a captured video frame without calculating the lengths of the motion vectors.

“Bare bones” Python code: https://github.com/lvetech/ALTmotion

Works for me: https://github.com/lvetech/ALT - non-contact heartbeat and respiration detection.

Thanks for posting this; it's great to see people experimenting with motion vectors, instead of the more primitive difference-from-average-background that "motion" etc. uses. The video shows it works for small motions in otherwise still scenes.

For me, an interesting test of a motion detection system, especially for outdoor use is how well it can reject "uninteresting" scene changes like ambient light changes, rain, insects, and branches moving in the wind, while still detecting a person or a car. Or for indoor use, if it can tell difference between curtain blowing from HVAC or dog or cat, and a person.
