I've been using the Pi camera and some QR software to read QR codes. Cannot comment on 'compa' - not sure what that is.

Sorry for the typo. What I actually mean is "Can you recommend QR code scanners compatible for RPi 3 Model B?"
What is the QR software that you are using? Thanks for your help.

I've been using zbar-tools and qrencode for decode and encode respectively, and the standard camera apps with the raspi camera.

Where can I download the zbar-tools and qrencode? Is it compatible with RPi 3?

You should be able to install it with apt.

sudo apt install zbar-tools python-zbar python-qrtools python-qrcode qrencode

Do you have available codes for this?

No, sorry. I've not tried doing QR codes with my old RPi1B and V1 camera.

Most USB barcode scanners should work quite well with Raspberry Pi. There are usually two types, those who emulate a keyboard and those you appear as a serial port. Those who appear as a serial port is somewhat simpler to work with.

If you want the quick route with no python:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install zbar-tools
then point the camera at the barcode:

Code: Select all

raspistill  -o image.jpg && zbarimg image.jpg
I pointed the camera at the screen showing the page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QR_code

Code: Select all

QR-Code:http://en.m.wikipedia.org
scanned 1 barcode symbols from 1 images in 8.1 seconds
that was an original pi B , pi3 would be faster

Its probably easier to get help on fixing you problem if you describe what you have tried and where it failed.
Also hijacking an old thread with a misleading subject is also not a good idea.

It reports the 'text' of what ever the QR code inside the image says.

See mikerr's post above, he has posted the output of the command he ran.

More information needed. I know this combination works, so what is actually going wrong in your case?

I have used the zbar library in an Android environment (from Java), and I would also recommend it, but sadly I don't have samples. I haven't done any barcode work with a Pi until now.

But one thing: don't use a too big frame size, otherwise zbar will slow to a crawl. Most barcodes can be decoded nicely with a frame that's about 720 pixels wide.

I personally cannot recreate it... zbar-tools installs correctly here.
