To be honest, I can't remember: at a guess I was just experimenting to find the best options. I don't use raspivid now, I use python picamera; and I'm explicitly setting contrast but not exposure. It's working for me, though I haven't tested it with the scientific method you have - I simply watch if my piDrone can fly in a straight line with macro-block distance tracking providing long term accurate backing up short term double-integrated acceleration. - Raspberry Pi and other stuffing!

Thanks for the info. :) ...and now that I think of it, only by also testing outdoors, can I find out if switching off automatic exposure was a practical thing to do. I'll try to get there (dangling the drone from a fishing pole or something, no flying yet) in a week or two. :)
