Pi Zero long camera cable bond?

Fri Aug 05, 2016 12:21 am

Hi,

I've got a project where I need a long RP Zero camera cable, at least 40cms long. I have yet to see any and I need to get this project done.

What I need is the 50cms RP Zero version of this cable.

That said, is there any way I can bond a RP Zero camera cable to a standard RP camera cable?

Thanks

Might be a bit pricey but should do the job fast: http://uk.farnell.com/raspberry-pi/rpi- ... dp/2433318

That's the adapter set for the Compute Module.

Interesting. Yes, it is expensive. That would work as long as I could get the adaptor to fit in the confined space of the project housing.

I'll add it as an option. Would still like to see if it's possible to bond the cables together.

Thanks

I had the same problem and made a small adapter board (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/201638994940) to join camera cables.

Soldering the FPC (Felxible printed circuit = Zero camera cable) to the standard 15-pin FFC is possible as long you know how to do it. Make sure you use the right type of FFC for this; if not you will end up with a cable that has the contacts on the wrong side...

You can buy the connector to link two cables together from Pimoroni now for the same price.

Hi, yes I saw they had these yesterday. I'd been in contact with a number of Pi suppliers about longer Zero cables and they said they were looking at them. It appears the converter solution has come to the fore instead.

I have one of these converters in use at the moment and it works great.

Sorry to resurrect a dead thread, but if you're still looking for a solution then it might be worth you time looking on Aliexpress.

I found the 22-pin 0.5mm pitch ribbon cables that are required to connect to the RPI Zero camera connector.

If you make yourself a custom PCB and use this 22 pin connector (https://goo.gl/jvYe3p) and place one on either side of the board.
Then buy yourself either a same side or reverse direction ribbon cable from the links below and that should sort out your extension problem.

Same Side: https://goo.gl/ap8kNg
Reverse Side: https://goo.gl/ejVjge

For your exact problem you wanted 40cm or 400mm for conversion purposes.
So here is a link to a 40cm cable: https://goo.gl/gA9ASM

If you want different sizes then you can go here: https://goo.gl/wUHYXc
However this is only for same sided cables as there are limited options for reverse side.
