Telescope Adaptor - Any 3D printable designs?

Fri Jul 22, 2016 8:40 am

Does anyone have, or know of, any 3d printable designs for interfacing the camera module to a standard telescope eyepiece 'socket'?

I've tried to make one from polymod but with limited success.

Here's the complicated way to do it: http://blog.raceconditions.net/nexstar- ... pberry-pi/

Simple answer is to use an old film canister and do it this way:

better still, it looks like you can take an old film can, drill a hole in the centre for the pi camera lens / sensor to poke through, and then 4 small holes near the edge to mount the camera board with the little bolts that come with things like the pimoroni camera mount. If you get extra nuts you can use them as spacers to make sure the camera board doesn't tip at an angle.

I can try that.... if I can find any 35mm film cases anywhere.

Still looking for 3D printable designs if anyone has any.

This is not specifically what you want (it is for mounting a microscope objective reversed, for use as a lens on the RPi v2 camera board) but you could use it as a starting point for a design: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1565909
It mounts to the camera PCB using 4x M2 screws and nuts.

Well ... the DIY answer, anyway.

The properly simple answer (non-DIY) is to buy the M12 adapter with 21mm spacing, screw that onto the camera (after removing the lens), then screw in an M12 webcam adapter onto it. You'll likely need to do some minor cutting on one side (as the sensor is under the fit), but that's easy.

No it's not 3D printed; but it's probably cheaper !
