I've got the camera working but where does it store the photos it takes ?

Maybe I'm using the wrong command ?

any thoughts very welcome !

The image flashes up for a few seconds and thats it...

Not obvious how to take a photo that I can look at again ! *LOL*

I though its a 'no brainer' that most folk want to be able to see their photos, guess I'm having an 'off' day !

Oh... it is the latest 8 MP IR version.

It should be in the directory from where you issued the command.
Most likely your home directory.

BTW: did you update / upgrade before using the camera?

+1 to the suggestions made by @DirkS.

Check for the presence of the file: (that's letter 'ell' the first two times, but One in the filename.)

There are some Comments in the RPF blog post that suggest that maybe updated software is required for the new cameras. https://www.raspberrypi.org/blog/new-8- ... d-sale-25/

(But I might have misunderstood, and I don't have a new camera to check against.)

got a Rpi Model B 1GHz working, added the camera did the up grades etc and tried to take a photo:-

raspi -o cam.jpg

and got this back....

mmal: mmal_vc_component_enable: failed to enable component: ENOSPC ETC ETC
Please check for firmware updates...

the wiFi built in one just worked once and gave up after I crashed Raspbian..

I'll get some upto date raspbian micro card tomorrow and see if that helps....

No sure which bit is giving all the grief.....

On the 18th of March a new version of Raspian was on offer, so I downloaded it and took all my micro SD cards and put it on them....

That completely fixed the problem !

First I did:-

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get upgrade

sudo raspi-config

with that I maxed available space also enabled the camera.

re-booted

and lo everything worked including the camera !

raspistill -v -o test.jpg

got a photo stored in the home directory !

I'll go round my other Pi's and see how they cope with the 18th March version of Raspian !I did find two knacked micro SD cards and that caused 99% of the problems ! (I think)
