I'm trying to work on a project for a long time now with various degrees of success. What I want is a number (in the end, around 10) raspberry pi systems with camera each streaming video back to a single motion server. The reasons for this are:
1) Keep hi-res / low latency video
2) Avoid recording on local SD card
3) Avoid trying to do motion detection with the limited CPU on the raspberry pi
What I want the motion server to do is be able to display all (or a group) of camera's at the same time, like a typical security camera setup, maybe 3 x 3 or 4 x 3 format (depending on number of cameras). Also, keep motion events (full HD video at 20fps) for at least a week, and keep snapshots taken once per second during motion events for a longer period of time.
I can use raspivid to stream the video out of the raspberry, but then I'm not sure how to get motion to "connect" and consume that video. I'm sure this has been done before, so if anyone has any hints, please let me know. Currently using Raspberry Pi Model B
Thanks for any hints or ideas
