python picamera lockup

Sat Feb 28, 2015 4:44 pm

I'm using a picamera with the picamera python libraries.
If my code calls the start_recording() method then the process will lock. I can kill the proces and restart it, but the start_recording() method will lockup the process every time. I can still run raspi_vid and it will record a clip, so I think the problem is not with the camera board.

I've added print statements to confirm that the issue is in start_recording, i.e. everything works fine up to that point. The code never returns from the start_recording call. Also, the process does have permission to write the video file that is specified in the start_recording call.

I searched the forums and google and haven't found a solution or similar problem.

Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
//Bill

It might help if you share some code. I do wonder if you are using an invalid file name. If you change it from h264 or jpg it will fail I've seen.

Once the recording is completed, you can rename the completed file as you like.

Thanks! The filename was the problem. I changed the filename back to *.h264 and that solved the problem.
I don't think I would ever have found that.
