Built the gertboard, and prepped the atmega's fuses ok, but I can't seem to unzip the test files :

Hmm. The file I downloaded last month was a normal zip file and I just unzipped it with unzip, not gunzip.
Is it possible that someone's changed the filetype to gz to match the name in the manual?

Give it a shot. I'll  if it works. Failing that, I'll try to attach the file I downloaded.

It looks like it's a tar.gz file you can extract it using

tar vfxz gertboard_sw_10_07_12.tar.gz

where v -> verbose
f specifies a file is being passed on the command line (default tar looks for a physical tape device)
x extract
z pass through gzip first

You 'tar' it after you 'gunzip' it, according to the manual :

Test programs overview
When you download the Gertboard test/example code (available at http://www.element14.com/raspberrypi),
you will have a file with a name something like gertboard_sw_10_07_12.tar.gz. This is a
compressed (hence the .gz suffix, which means it was compressed using the gzip algorithm) archive
(hence the .tar), where an archive is a collection of different files, all stored in a single file.
To retrieve the original software, put the file where you want your Gertboard software to end up on
your Raspberry Pi computer, then uncompress it by typing the following in one of the terminal
windows on your Pi (substituting the name of the actual file you have downloaded for the file name
we are using in this example):
gunzip gertboard_sw_10_07_12.tar.gz
10
Typing a directory command, ls, should then show the newly uncompressed archive file
gertboard_sw_10_07_12.tar . So now, to extract the files from the archive, type
tar –xvf gertboard_sw_10_07_12.tar
A new directory, gertboard_sw, will be created.

.. I did try
Code: Select all
tar –xvf gertboard_sw_10_07_12.tar,gz

...but that threw up an error.

I,ll take another look after work tonight.

In the mean time, if anyone would be kind enough to go through the above sequence in a temporary folder, I,d appreciate it.

Cheers,
Texy

It should work as per the manual though :(

If you are still having troubles, try this command:

Code: Select all
file gertboard_sw_10_07_12.tar.gz

That will tell you exactly what kind of file it is.This is what I get after running your wget command to download the file:

Code: Select all
file gertboard_sw_10_07_12.tar.gz
gertboard_sw_10_07_12.tar.gz: HTML document, UTF-8 Unicode text, with very long lines, with CRLF, LF line terminators

So, looks like you got an error page rather than the software. Looking at a "head" of the file, it is indeed an HTML page.

The problem is, I don't see any links to the gerboard manuals any more on the element 14 page. I'm looking in the user manual for my gertboard, and when I visit the link given on page 9, there's nothing there!

This link, which I admit took some finding, should get you the proper file.

http://www.element14.com/community/serv ... /38-101479 but, it saves as a file called "38-101479" which will obviously need renaming

As in:

Code: Select all
norman@hubble:~/Downloads/RaspberryPi/GertBoard> wget http://www.element14.com/community/servlet/JiveServlet/download/38-101479

New thread started, which I hope will permanently address these needs.

Hi
One of Gerts demo programs in the zipfile seems to be incomplete

The Gertboard_demo.c does not have the executable file after running make all.
Ive tried compilling it manually but Gertboard_demo.h is missing
Think this is the program Gert is using in one of his videos that has a lot of the tests combined and the required on can be selected from a menu.
Id like to have a play with this one.
