Proto Armour for Raspberry Pi and GertDuino

Tue Dec 03, 2013 8:11 pm

It's hard to stay quiet after spending quality time in the lab, especially when new hardware is involved. Attached are a couple pics showing Proto Armour for Raspberry Pi with a new GPIO access port. This permits connecting a prototype board to the Raspberry Pi using an elevated header such as a Samtec ESW-113-44-T-D. The mounting kit shown is made specifically for securing the new GertDuino add-on board to the modified Proto Armour case.

We are testing this hardware out and can take some orders from those wanting to tinker ahead of release. If you're interested, place an order for the standard Proto Armour for Raspberry Pi case on our store at: http://store.mobileappsystems.com/100052, and specify GDMK in the order comments. We'll send you the modified case along with the GertDuino Mount Kit. The mount kit will be included at no extra cost. Keep in mind that only non-anodized versions are available at this time.

For now, this will be a limited run :geek:

Looks good. Should be a standard feature on all of them. Do you know of a rubber plug that will fit across the gap to seal it when I don't need the pins? Will the Proto Armour accept a Raspberry Pi with a pIO (MicroSD card adapter)?

We're working on a seal. I haven't tried a pIO adapter, but don't see why it shouldn't work.

Please see the following post about our new blog called:

The Proto Blog
Prototyping Industrial Solutions using the Raspberry Pi and Linux

The Proto Blog just went live today and the central theme will focus on prototyping industrial solutions using the Raspberry Pi and Linux. One of the upcoming topics relating to this sub-forum is about cases.

Would it be possible to get the GertDuino plate with the camera mount case?

That combination is not possible since the GertDuino mounts on top of the RPi and the Proto Armour for Raspberry Pi and Camera case positions the RPi camera module on the upper half of the case, effectively blocked behind the GertDuino board.

Talk about run-on sentences

On a side note, we're working on a small add-on board that installs inside all existing Proto Armour for Raspberry Pi and Proto Armour for Raspberry Pi and Camera cases. This board includes an ARM Cortex-M4 MCU, battery, beefy digital I/O, relay, and analog I/O. A small spring terminal block is exposed just outside the case for quick connection to stuff like switches, relays, indicators and more. We intend to open-source the design so others can grab what they need to spin their own board designs that fit neatly inside Proto Armour cases. This project currently goes by the name ProtoPLC and more information will eventually find it's way to The Proto Blog.
