In both cases I am experiencing significant degradation of fps (down to 5-6 fps).
Is that expected?
I think it is expected when using display_rotate=1 or 3 since in these modes the hardware video scaler has to do additional(?) work. But there shouldn't be any noticeable difference using screen_transform since then rotating the video is done through OpenGL which won't slow down.

Can you send me (email on https://info-beamer.com/doc/about) the full log output when running info-beamer with log level 3? Just start info-beamer like this:

Code: Select all

$ INFOBEAMER_LOG_LEVEL=3 info-beamer path/to/node
Hopefully I can see the problem there.

Most of those things are probably already possible by leveraging what info-beamer already offers: The scriptability using UDP/OSC packets or TCP and the ability to monitor files changes should help a lot. You should be able to build simple user interfaces (for example based on this input code: https://github.com/dividuum/info-beamer ... t-handling) and for example adapting https://github.com/vrld/Quickie. Not sure about games though. I think something like Pi3D (http://pi3d.github.io/html/ReadMe.html) is probably better suited as it offers a lower level interface to OpenGL.

If you have a clear idea on what kind of project you're trying to do, don't hesitate to contact me. I'd be happy to help you.

Most likely not, but licensing the player (aka info-beamer pi) is generating income and I'm not sure I want to give that up (yet).

Hi,
I tried using info-beamer in portrait mode with 1-3 videos (mp4). in landscape mode it runs quite fine (40-50 fps).

I tried both
* display_rotate=1 or 3 in /boot/config.txt
* using lua util.screen_transform
In both cases I am experiencing significant degradation of fps (down to 5-6 fps).
Is that expected ? or it is my RPI2 config ...
Is there a way to configure to achieve same fps as in landscape mode ?

Thanks.

@nlazovic, take a look at the top of this forum page, I already responded to your question. If you send me the log output I'd be happy to help with your problem.

Hi,

I would like to use info-beamer to show a couple of shorte movies (mpg4) like youtube videos at an information stand.
The installation went good and all samples are working. But whe I try to play a movie I only get a black screen.
pressing escape ends the movie and I see a lot of lines saying; {video] not initialized with gl.setup()".
Maybe it's because I could not install two of the libraries mentionen in the README.txt (libavformat53 and libavresample).
With both files I will get the error message "Paket '...' kann nicht gefunden werden".

My .lua-file looks like that
#----------------------------------
gl.setup(1152, 864)

video = util.videoplayer("1.mp4")

function node.render()
video:draw(0, 0, WIDTH, HEIGHT)
end
#----------------------------------

Any Ideas that could help?
Thanks in advance

mo

Could you try using this code: https://github.com/dividuum/info-beamer ... /videolist
Just put the video files in the same directory and put their filenames into the playlist.txt file.

Which release of Raspbian are you using? Wheezy or Jessie? You can find that out by running 'cat /etc/debian_version'. If it returns 8.0, then you're running Jessie. The error message sounds like you tried to install the Wheezy version of those packages on Jessie. Just follow the "Installation on Jessie" instructions in the README.txt. But since you were able to run the samples already, I guess you completed that part already.

If the 'videolist' code above doesn't work for you, please send me an email with file log.txt attached, which can be created by running info-beamer like this:

$ INFOBEAMER_LOG_LEVEL=3 info-beamer /path/to/videolist 2> log.txt

I can probably see the problem then, so we can get this running asap.

Hi,

I'm currently working on a solution to use info-beamer at a stage projector. But to be more flexible, I want to stream the Videos from another Computer using an http-Stream. Is it possible to play the http-video-Stream directly with info-beamer? Just providing the url to util.videoplayer does not work...

Great piece of software, btw :)

Thanks in advance,
lagertonne

Yes, it is possible, but since I don't have any real experience in video streaming it's not an official feature. Here's how to stream from an url:
Start info-beamer with the environment variable INFOBEAMER_OUTSIDE_SOURCES set to 1. So like this:

Code: Select all

$ INFOBEAMER_OUTSIDE_SOURCES=1 ./info-beamer path/to/your/node
Then just load the video:

Code: Select all

local video = resource.load_video "http://something"
and display it in node.render:

Code: Select all

function node.render()
    video:draw(0, 0, WIDTH, HEIGHT)
end
I would still recommend playing only local files as that seems way more reliable.

Is there a way to play and control audio in info-beamer in a same way as video?

E.g., if I would like to play a specific soundtrack when showing particular image or play sound if file is changed?

Thanks

Not at the moment. The current workaround is to use videos with (for example) a 16x16 black picture. It's a bit ugly. I might look into adding proper audio support in the future. Sorry about that.
