RPi in a Civic Si?

Wed Oct 23, 2013 10:34 pm

I just got myself a 2013 Civic Si the other day. Thinking of getting another RPi to mount in the car to do something with.

Anyone care to help me get started? Initially I guess monitoring vitals would be nice, maybe tie into music via bluetooth or something using my phone a hotspot or something too.

AFAIK the keyword is OBD , on-board diagnostics.
Doesn't look easy though ..

• Don't like the board ? Missing features ? Change to the prosilver theme ! You can find it in your settings.
• Don't like to search the forum BEFORE posting 'cos it's useless ? Try googling : yoursearchtermshere site:raspberrypi.org

That or a GPS/XM radio type thing would be nice. Not easy how?

You can get a bluetooth enabled ELM327 interface for £7 and commmunicate with it directly as you drive to get vitals. It's very simple, all commands are 'AT' commands. Just google for the 'ELM327 datasheet' from Elm Electronics and you'll get the idea very quickly.

I modify these units to make a special function OBD device, I desolder the bluetooth module and connect right onto the rx and tx pins.... see here http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/8207513358/

You can get all the live data you want from OBD, like I say yoiu just need the ELM327 datasheet....yoiu can easily use one of the many graphical output methods of the Pi to display that data
