I"d be interested in one!
PayPal allows people without accounts to just pay with their credit card and doing refunds is easy - tho I seem to remember you had to do them individually, not as a "batch". Looking forward to seeing the final design and placing an order!

Re: Injection Molded Case!
Buy injection moulded case as per C4B7
Spray paint it whatever colour you want.
Hey presto... it's a <colour> one!
All I'd want after that is a Raspberry Pi Logo Sticker.
We could start a case modding forum after that.. ;D

shanesanders, If you can find anyone to make a blender model of Han Solo in carbonite I'll make sure it will hold the RPi and I'll share the .stl file with the world for free.
There are several available from this site (search "Han Solo")
http://www.thingiverse.com
Here's one, but you may want to examine all of the available ones to determine the best one.

Re: Injection Molded Case!
I'd definitely be interested in a white one.
Re: Injection Molded Case!
I have a laser cutting machine co2.
Last week I made some test cases in methacrylate 3mm thick.
When you have your RPI measures you can send me and I can make a box with your specifications.

Re: Injection Molded Case!
The case design above is perfect for a cardboard case!
You could put the layout in a PDF and people could print it out and cut themselves a nice cardboard case using a knife and scissors.

or something a little more sturdy like 3mm ply wood...
I was hoping for a nice knotted cherry veneer finish but then that's just how I roll mfs

George,
I've got plans for a few different cases one of which could very easily be made of solid cherry wood.

Nice one!!! :þ
Finally I have received an email from RS saying they GOT my registration of interest... 3 weeks on...
I expect I may be luck enough to get one in 2012. Hopefully sooner!

Re: Injection Molded Case!
My second try at a case. I'm still no good at rendering 3D stuff.
I still am having a hard time trying to figure out how to deal with taxes when setting a price. I'm valuing my time at pretty much zero and trying to just have shipping, material cost and the molds be what everyone pays for.

My Indiegogo site is going to be going live in a couple days. Let me know what you think of my idea context=C44d0ab5ADvjVQa1PpcFN3JuLdKHyCT534eMbNy-hmp96RU9130D4=

Sorry!
I am getting verified by Indiegogo right now. They want to make sure I'm a real person and not just scamming people. I was so excited to make the video and get the page live that I missed the important part of getting verified first. Oh well, live and learn...

If you could post [or message me] a .obj or another 3d model file, I'll do a nice render for you. I'm definitely interested in one.

Re: Injection Molded Case!
Here is where I'm thinking of having the two shells meet.
Although I think I'll need to rework the design quite a bit.
If you look at the underside it has the SD card sticking out. This frustrates me to no end.
Re: Injection Molded Case!
I believe that the one is one of the first hundred beta boards, and that the production boards won't have the SD card mounting brackets sticking out.
Re: Injection Molded Case!
I don't wish to stifle the wonderful creativity here, but has anyone thought of the cheap, ready made option of using the surface mounting boxes for electrical sockets together with an accompanying blanking plate for the box lid. Holes would have to be cut for cable inlets/outlets but I'm certainly going to give it a try. Boxes available from RS (other suppliers are available) are 146mm long by 86mm wide with depths of 30mm and 47mm available. Details are here:
http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/.....s/6679964/ and here:
http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/.....s/6679952/
Prices are £1.19 for box and £0.43 for blank plate

Re: Injection Molded Case!
dmj,
I think that is great idea actually. I'll be using my old LEGOs until I get my plastic case. My purpose in designing this case is for fun, this case is not intended to be "The" case for the Raspberry Pi computer. There are actually a lot of cases here in the forum and there are people who want a case that they don't have to drill holes in. If you go check the wiki you can see some of them.

Re: Injection Molded Case!
ujamer,
Thanks, I just saw the pictures Liz posted. No crazy SD card, now if we could just get them to respin the board so that the connectors only face out of two sides rather than all four like an octopus.

Taking preorders now!
My design is not finalized so let me know what you think. The more that donate the cheaper the price! I'm working on my end to optimize the case design and get the over all mold cost lower.
Tell all your friends!

Re: Injection Molded Case!
The impression I get from the above site is that production will not commence until you receive pledges of funding for the full amount specified ($14,500), and if this does not happen by the end of April then no cases will be manufactured.
Is this correct please, or have I misunderstood?

Re: Injection Molded Case!
It is true.Production will not start until the goal is met.
I am not a business, just a guy who wants to be a part of something bigger than himself. I am still paying of student loans and don't have a huge amount of money to risk making molds.
If we can group our money together we can get it to happen. If the goal is not met then everyone gets their money back and I'll try again. I'm not making any money off this. I'm doing it only because I want to contribute in my small way since I can't program.

Re: Injection Molded Case!
I just have to say that will43 is a great guy! He donated $100 and now the price of the PiBox is $24.75 for everyone else!
