Re: Laser Cut RPI case project

Sat Jan 28, 2012 10:18 am

HI

I have recently been working on a project to do a laser cut case for the RPI

I have used the measurements from the beta board photos & have put together a basic concept.

I will post a link soon

Have you chosen a company to do this yet?  How much are you expecting it to cost?

I have access to a laser cutter therefore I am able to do it for free. I will not be selling them hence me posting the design. This is still a prototype as i am only doing it on measurements given to me as I do not have a raspberry pi and will have to wait untill they are released.

We are planning on a commercial Acrylic case. We did the design in 3mm Acrylic in November and am just waiting to get a production unit to confirm the final design.

It should be cheaper than the SpecialComputing BeagleBoard Acrylic cases!

What file types does your cutter use?

I don't have a proper cad package, I believe some cutters will take bitmaps  and or PDFs

It might be best to email me off list at [email protected]

There is a company in Denmark who can make laser cutting for anyone. Don't know if they ship abroad, or even have an English language site (http://cotter.dk/: I see a danish site, and there doesn't seem to be translation links). They accept PDFs made from their template in either Adobe Illustrator or Inkscape. Now, I'd like to use them for casing my Raspberry Pi, but I'd really like to know if there are any official documentation of the boards measurements anywhere?

I also use a laser machine to cut 3mm thick acrylic..

The laser machine It is more adaptable to custom cases.

hi,

I've (hopefully) attached a link to a PDF file of a case I've been working on that can be cut out of of A4 sheet  (3mm thick) of perspex or cardboard using a laser cutter. I've called it the flat-pack-pi-case and you're welcome to take the design and modify accordingly. Drawing is scaled 1:1 so should print ok.

If I've got it right then the PCB will be held firm on all 4 sides without the need of screws etc.

anyway, help yourselves.
