Hi Jomiquel, I didn't need to compilate any chrome in order to get Xibo client on Raspberry (Raspberry pi 2 model B) to work, I did just download the image:

. . . and then just follow the instructions you'll find here at this very same (forum) thread:

Hello!
Im glad to say that my 2 raspberry pi work with the image! :)
But still i have some little problems!
I bought and registered the video codecs from raspberrypi.org
But there is no way to have an working video file, and i tested all different kind of formats ;)
And if i have a text scrolling from one to the other side, it is not smooth. The text stucks and bucking again.
So this is not pretty, but i can see that it works in some kind of way!

Also i get these error logs:
13484 2015-05-11 20:23:33 Client .SubmitLog [Errno 101] Das Netzwerk ist nicht erreichbar
13485 2015-05-11 20:23:33 Client .RequiredFiles [Errno 101] Das Netzwerk ist nicht erreichbar
13486 2015-05-11 20:23:33 Client .MediaInventory [Errno 101] Das Netzwerk ist nicht erreichbar
13487 2015-05-11 20:23:33 Client .MediaInventory [Errno 101] Das Netzwerk ist nicht erreichbar
13488 2015-05-11 20:23:33 Client .Schedule [Errno 101] Das Netzwerk ist nicht erreichbar
13489 2015-05-11 20:23:34 Client .RequiredFiles [Errno 101] Das Netzwerk ist nicht erreichbar
13490 2015-05-11 20:23:34 Client .MediaInventory [Errno 101] Das Netzwerk ist nicht erreichbar

But if i want to connect to the pi via ssh, it works fine!

What is my problem????

I will attach my site.cfg ;)

Hello all!

first of all: thank you for your great work!
my pi is running and connecting to the server.

but i still have problems with video, i diddnt have time to install codecs yet,
and my bigger problem is: i also dont get fullscreen...

like sgherzo and jaimemagana.
do you allready have a solution?

many thanks, didi

To jaimemagana: have You tried to replace libbrowsernode.so and plugin subfolder of xibo client folder into hellbender client or xibo 1.6 rc1 from balmond's client folder? This resolve the full screen for me and videos are fluid. I have mounted the raw image from my pc to perform these actions. If You want I can upload a zip tomorrow.

Bye

Thanks a lot!! please do!

I´ll try and "replace the libbrowsernode.so and plugin subfolder of xibo client folder" thing. Please, do upload. And a quick "Do this, try that" would be helpfull. Thanks again!
I got stuck on that and still havent been able to figure that one out.

Thank you for post, Vangelius.

I took the way you proposed. I'll sumarize the steps I followed, in order someone can help:
  • I burned the image and switched on my RPi.
  • I changed the current directory to ~/pyclient/client/python/.
  • I renamed run.sh.renameme into run.sh
  • I copied site.cfg.settings into site.cfg, and customized its content.
  • I launched ./run.sh
It sounds great, doesn't it?

But the client crash with this output:

Code: Select all

Xibo Client v1.6.0-rc2
Reading default configuration
Reading user configuration
Log Level is: 0
Logging will be handled by: XiboLogXmds
Switching to new logger
Illegal instruction
Well, I will now start debuging XiboClient.py for finding what the hell is wrong. Sometimes I think this is a dead end.

Any help will be welcome!

By the way, my server version is 1.6.0.

UPDATE:
It cannot create the XiboLayoutManager (near line 4099). It seems not to start the __init__ method.

Yes, go to this path in your Linux Raspian:
/home/pi/pyclient/client/python

Inside "python" folder edit the file "site.cfg" with this command:

Code: Select all

sudo nano site.cfg
Change those parts of the document "site.cfg" with your own xmdsURL and xmdsKey, note you must replace the "100.100.100.10" IP with your own IP address:

Hello,

I have a problem with a webpage I want to show at the client.

In our network we need to install certificates for decryption of ssl traffic.
I installed the certificate and iceweasel and epyphany can open the page on the raspberry.
The builtin chromium can't open the page because of the certificate issue.

Can you please tell us, how to import the certificate into chromium, it seems that it has its own storage, because in the default ca-authorities storage the certificate is placed and imported.

Thanks.
Hope you can help me out.

No doubt I really did these changes before trying to launch the client. You can see in my previous post viewtopic.php?p=761646#p761646 that I customized my

Code: Select all

site.cfg
. Besides, a wrong config would make the connection to fail, not an Illegal function call.

I cannot take a view until next weekend, I will report the advances.

This will enable the full logging on the local machine. When you exit the client you can take a look at the log file and hopefully it will tell you why it isn't starting.

I will take a look at the image to see if i missed something.

And where is the log stored?
In data - log - i don't see anything...

Hi Didi,

I did install Balmonds image.

I have some serious problems right now with The Xibo Client stopping showing the layouts after a while . . . sometimes even at login the layouts don't play and some other times it plays for a long time but then -after some hours- the Xibo player stops showing the layouts (maybe libavg problem?).

My other problem is that i can't see the Xibo layout showing at VNC, i can access the RPI with VNC at the same session/desktop showing via the LCD screen (settings ":0" at x11vncserver), but the layer with the Xibo player shows just as a black picture (this black picture shows via VNC even when the Xibo layout stopped showing the contents, so I can not know via the VNC if the layouts are actually showing or not), so, it doesn't show the Xibo layout via VNC. I want to keep testing Xibo with RPI, but i must postpone the idea to put it into production this month. I am thinking workaround it with some Xibo Offline client or something like that ...

I am hopping right now for some serious hack /debug (anyone?) giving us some more stable result with the XiboClient.py because is gonna happend, the question is when? I'm keeping testing, so long!

Greetings! /Rodrigo

Alex Harrington (https://community.xibo.org.uk/users/alex/activity) answered this to my post (https://community.xibo.org.uk/t/unsuppo ... -you/59/29):

VNC won't show the screen because libavg is effectively a video overlay rendering direct to graphics card memory so screen scrapers can't see the output.

The Python client isn't going to be fixed because the libraries it uses where the majority of the issues come from aren't being developed any more and it's too much work to take those projects on as well.

Hello everyone,

First of all thank you for the work done on adapting Xibo on Rpi2.

Unfortunately I have a problem resolution. I do not get Xibo in fullscreen. I go through an HDMI -> VGA. I set the config.txt file for the 1920x1080 and it works perfectly.

By cons when I put the same resolution in the site.cfg file libavg launches but plant with the mouse pointer in black fullscreen.

If I put a lower resolution it works without any worry.

Here are my parameters:

config.txt:

Code: Select all

# For more options and information see
# http://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/configuration/config-txt.md
# Some settings may impact device functionality. See link above for details

# uncomment if you get no picture on HDMI for a default "safe" mode
#hdmi_safe=1

# uncomment this if your display has a black border of unused pixels visible
# and your display can output without overscan
#disable_overscan=0

disable_overscan=1

# uncomment the following to adjust overscan. Use positive numbers if console
# goes off screen, and negative if there is too much border
#overscan_left=16
#overscan_right=16
#overscan_top=16
#overscan_bottom=16

# uncomment to force a console size. By default it will be display's size minus
# overscan.
#framebuffer_width=1280
#framebuffer_height=720

# uncomment if hdmi display is not detected and composite is being output
hdmi_force_hotplug=1

# uncomment to force a specific HDMI mode (this will force VGA)
#hdmi_group=1
#hdmi_mode=4

hdmi_group=1
hdmi_mode=16
#display_rotate=1

# uncomment to force a HDMI mode rather than DVI. This can make audio work in
# DMT (computer monitor) modes
hdmi_drive=2

# uncomment to increase signal to HDMI, if you have interference, blanking, or
# no display
#config_hdmi_boost=4

# uncomment for composite PAL
#sdtv_mode=2

#uncomment to overclock the arm. 700 MHz is the default.
#arm_freq=800
site.cfg:

Code: Select all

# Xibo Site Configuration File
# Copy this to site.cfg in the same folder as XiboClient.py

[Main]
# Change to the URL of your Xibo server
xmdsUrl=http://xx.xx.xx.xx/xibo

# Change to a random string. Used to generate your client key.
# Must be unique for all your clients
xmdsClientID=rpitest

# The server key for your Xibo server
xmdsKey=xibo

# How frequently to poll the Xibo server for updates (in seconds)
xmdsUpdateInterval=90

# Require a valid connection to the server for the client to start
# If the server is unavailable or the client is unlicensed, sit
# at the splash screen.
requireXmds=false

# Width of the Xibo Client window to use (or screen width if fullscreen)
width=1920

# Height of the Xibo Client window to use (or screen width if fullscreen)

Hello @ all,

through this Post i'm able to run the Python Xibo Client 1.6 on the rspi2 :) Works in HD without any doubt.
Thanks for that.

Is it possible that the Xibo Client 1.6 is able to run with the Xibo 1.4 Server?

I registered the Display and on 1.4 Server everything seems to work OK but the 1.6 Client won´t go further then the SplashScreen.

Hello all,

I downloaded this image: https://www.dropbox.com/s/nkyryzxjocgj3 ... 2.zip?dl=0
Xibo player works, but am facing two problems.
1.Cant get it to work full screen. I have a hd tv 1920x1280. Whenever i try to run it fullscreen with these values i get that error :
"no video mode large enough ... "
I was able to make it only to 1400x960 without getting that error.
When i try 1920x1280 without full screen i get the "Assertion failed in GLContext.cpp:474" error.

2.The videos play good but with no sound. I only get a noisy sound from the TV. Can play youtube videos without problem.

I didn't do any change to the image,just the site.cfg file.

Best Regards.

Hi,

I have a problem for which i don't find a solution by my self, hopefully someone can help.

I have a XIBO server and a bunch of RPi clients. I run a test with a RPi2 although. Near everything works good since a long time now, with one exception. From time to time (onec a day to once a week) one of the Pis shows only the Splashscreen that fades in and out. A reboot and everything is back to normal.

So has anybody an idea what i should do to fix this? Or is there a possibility to check that only the Splashscreen is showing so that i can invoke a reboot?

Because there are many config stuff i don't know what is important for one to help, so feel free to ask. I have a config.script that sets up every aspect of my Pis but i can't attach it because "The extension is not allowed" (i tried many different: .sh, .txt, .log, .bak, .bac, even none). If one want i can post it in a code tag, but it has over 500 lines!? FYI: I am good with linux (.*buntu, debian, arch) so you don't have to explain it "noob style" (if you don't want to;).

I appreciate your hard work for the images and looking forward for help!
Thanks

Hi all! Sorry for the absence...

I want to upload what I promise so much time ago...
1. From the Balmond viewtopic.php?p=732788#p732788 image the zipped compiled libraries folder (libavg) to extract into /usr/local (unzip and copy into the correct folders).

I've no update on the audio problem, but for the xibo client starting delay I figure out maybe my problem went into the usb alimentation of .5mA from the PC.

Hi,

for installation info try reading jaimemagana's post viewtopic.php?p=737409#p737409
I have had a problem on fullscreen from balmond's image that I figured out with a different Xibo client version, taken from Hellbender's first image.
That's all.

Thanks sgherzo that was what I initially was looking for! :)
However, your comments on the issues you encountered left me with a question:

What is the best known image out there right now?

I read the posts and it seems like there are 2 main images/branches: One from Balmond and other from Hellbender.
Both seem to work and to have some issues that may or may not work for each application depending on the specific requirements from each user.
In my case I'm looking for a ultra low cost client hardware to power small screens (less than VGA resolution). And as a "begginner" (beginner begging for help ;) ) I'm looking for the best known image and instructions on how to make that work.
Judging from the incredible level of activity of this thread I imagine I'm not the only one out there looking for this.
So, I'd ask/suggest for a brief "state of the union" on this thread:
"What is the best known way to run the Raspberry Pi 2 as a Xibo Client with instructions?"

Hi vnet,

sorry, but I haven't the answer to Your question! Maybe It's wrong to continue to use this thread for RPI2, because actually the title "Xibo player (work) on raspberrypi" refers to the 1st version of the rpi.

I'm still on testing sporadically rpi2 for a digital signage application (expecially based on videos), the audio problem persist. I'm not able to resolve the issue for lack of time.

I've managed to log into the image through ssh (pi/raspberry) but this combination does not work with the webinterface xibo provides.

Thank you.
