I certainly don't expect this in my stocking this year
or anytime soon ( not holding my breath )
BUT how about a new distro for the Pi
based on Ubuntu 12.04 or better or
maybe Xubuntu ?
I have just set up Ubuntu 12.04 on an older
AMD single core Sempron system
( only has 512MB DDR SDRAM )
and it uses Mozilla Firefox, Libre Office
and other stuff and was I surprised
when you compare the experience
to the old distros around back near 2000.
Ubuntu is so smooth to operate
and is a real delight to use.
Performs very well with
only 512MB ram.
On install Ubuntu picked up my
video, sound and ethernet etc
perfectly so I could
go online straight away,
listen to MP3 stuff etc..
I like Ubuntu very much
and I have seen Xubuntu systems
running the LXDE desktop
which were also impressive.
We should get Ubuntu for the Pi
if we can.
Anyone seen/heard anything out there ?
