ADS1115 is not detected by i2c

I'm trying to get working ADS1115 on raspberry pi 3b+. But when I try to detect it, it not found.
The result of i2cdetect -y 1:

The device in 36 is not a ADC. It is detected even if nothing connected.

Also on Pi mounted:
- 5 Inch HDMI display 800*480 Pixel XPT2046 Controller (Resistive sensor one);
- UGEEK UPS HAT (for this I soldered the 40 pins connector to rpi under the pi);
- and I am using 40 pins Pc cable for more comfortable coonnection.

I have already tried viewtopic.php?f=44&t=118990 and viewtopic.php?t=166362 but nothing helps. ADS1115 is not seen.

Two possibilities.

The device is broken.
The device is not connected to the I2C bus.

You need to provide more information if you want us to judge.

I have few ADS1115 so when it didn't worked I used brand new one but nothing helped.
I also checked the cable. It is ok.
I checked the connections a few times but no results.
1 - VDD 3.3 V > VDD
3 - SDA > SDA
5 - SCL > SCL
9 - GND > GND, ADDR

With problems involving connection issues its away a good idea to post some pictures showing the wiring and both the pi and device ends so we can check you actually have it connected correctly, its surprising how may times a simple wiring error is the cause of the problem.

1) Raspberry pi 3b+ and other hats. HDMI display is removed.

From your picture, are using breakaway male header with wire solder to your ads1115. Looks like wire solder to pin. I don't think that it is stable enough. Also you have another board under your PI3. Your ruban cable looks to be connected at the bottom. Is the connection pin mirrored in that case.


I will try to connect the ads1115 directly to the pi using strip header female connector with the wire solder to it and later figure out with stage of your connection doesn't work. Start simple and add stage one by one.


B.T.W. The solders look very bad. Good chance that a cold join or two pins shorted is the problem!

1) I have checked i2c is working and detects the ups hat.
2) Then I disconected all hats except display. And used colored cables on first ADS1115:
- yellow VDD
- brown GND
- red SCL
- orange SDA
- green connects GND and ADDR

Result it is not detecting anything.

try it on fresh install raspbian and i2c tools.
try to set another address
try any other device on i2c pins (does it works)? maybe you fired sda or scl lines.

I've doesn't had any problems with 1115(more than 50 chips I used on own boards).
It works fine up to 4 ads1115 on one bus.
