Case with Fan please.

Sat Nov 10, 2012 2:53 am

Hello Rpi friends.

I am on the search for a project to build a case for the Rpi.
I know that normally we like to keep things small but this time I want to make a case with enough space to put a Fan 80x80 on the side to cool the Pi and space to put inside a 2,5" hdd.

It can be a simple box with the fan blowing directly on the Pi made of plexiglass.

Is there anybody out there that already has a active cooled casing?

Please help me out doing this.

Bigger cases would be nice haven't really seen one to fit your needs or any that accommodate additional components. As far as a fan it's not needed in any way as the Pi really should operate at it's temp without any issues at all. If you put the hard drive above the Pi without adequate room it could trap heat but a space with vents would do just fine. I would like some LED's in the case for the glowing effect.

I would love to see modular cases that stack and allow for various components. I have thought about buying a few of the clear type and gluing some lego blocks on them so they stack I would think a small hard drive would fit into the space.

That's why I'm asking here, I'm looking around since days for a bigger case and if someone just made one but without luck.

The hdd is in the enclosure and not bigger as without it.
LEDs are optional for modding effect.

I know that normally there is no need for cooling but I want only avoid the stocking of warm air inside the case.
I already installed passive cooling on my Pi because I do not like temps over 50 Grades. :-)

I am not a great designer so if someone is good in cad or similar and can make a drawing it will be welcome.

Temps never exceed 100°F with the lid closed.

Buy the Titan USB Fan from FrozenCPU and throw the Titan fan away, then use the USB-To-3-Pimn fan adapter to power a fan on your Pi

Looks nice. This is more or less what i have in mind. The size is perfect and the space looks good too.

The only problem is that i am actually living in Brasil and everything is quiet expensive here.
Only to make an example, Rpi costs in Europe 49 Euro and here almost 100 with packaging.

Making a lego case would be out of budget they are expensive too here.

I want to see if i can do one in Plexyglass from the size of yours.

Thank you for the images.

Anyone more with some nice pics?

I've just stripped out a broken PC psu and thought it would be a good base for a Pi case as it already has a fan (12v - need to think about that one) vent holes, on/off switch etc and has thin enough metal to be easily modded.
Plenty of space for the Pi, usb board, 2.5" hdd (inc usb interface).
Would need to design a neat way to access the sd card as at present it would need five screws to be removed but I'm sure it's readily possible.

Hi,

I am planning nearly the same for May '13.
This is my inspiration: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s1R8I1_XLLE
I want a small screen and a tiny LCD screen on top, a fan on the right side and an HDD next to the RPi. The fan should be powered by a battery and also there should be a switch to turn the fan on and off. Also the Pi should have the ethernet and the two USB looking out of the box. Like in the video.
When I have my Pi (hopefully middle of december) I am going to plan it exactly. If you are interested I can send you my plan.

Tobi
