Secure SD card socket? (vibration proof)

Thu Nov 08, 2012 8:40 pm

Considering installing a RPi in a highly vibrating vehicle.

Any ideas how best can I secure the SD card?

(ideally without gluing it in!)

Simple approach would be an elastic band

+1 on the rubber band idea.

Hmm wrong way round if you have vibration area you need to clamp together connections, and provide shock absorbing mounts for the board. Elastic band will allow movement opposite of what you want, movement means intermittent connections

Suggest you find a way to clamp SD card to socket or have some insulating stiff material hold the SD card down. Not glue SD card down, but something over the SD card socket to hold the SD card down.

Rubber feet glued to board is minimum of shock mount I would do, consider what the engine mounting blocks in a car are bolts through a thick stiff rubber block.
