Portable Moniter With the Rpi

Wed Nov 07, 2012 10:52 pm

Ok, so I have a rasberry pi along with a power supply http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006YJEBGK/

What I want to do is be able to connect this to a monitor for use in the car, while i'm not driving, almost as a laptop. My question is will i need a moniter with a USB connection like this:

And Will I have enough power to supply it with?
Or can i use a moniter with a wall-plug? Also i don't know if it matters but here is the usb port
http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-Hi-Speed-U ... 000SDW84K/
I think it is powered but maybe I am incorrect.
Thank you for your help!

Bump...
Would the Rpi be able to support the power demands of the monitor?

Ok

Simple way to tell if your USB hub is powered or not. Do you plug it into a power source? or just the pi? If you plug it into a separate power source, It s a powered hub, if you plug it into just the pi, Its not. Since it comes with an AC power addaptor, I'd say yes, its a powered one, but obviously needs an external power source.

As a general rule, a powered hub can provide the power needed for any device, so you should be ok to use that usb monitor. My only question is, have you managed to set up your pi for usb monitor output?

Hope that helps
