Dial-a-Joke on CB radio

Mon Jun 18, 2018 6:18 pm

Inspired by Woz's Dial-A-Joke, I would like to connect a raspberryPi to a CB. i would have the RaspberryPi listen for a voice command much like Amazon Echo and then reply back over the CB radio. I could then call home on my CB and hear a joke, look up weather reports, etc. I am struggling on the hardware connection from the CB base station to the ports on the Pi. What would be the best way to be able to connect my CB mic to the Pi, so that I can Push-to-talk over the mic?

Hi.

The pi does not have any audio inputs so you will require extra hardware for that, the pi audio output is probably not suitable for direct connection to the MIC circuit of your CB, you will need to match the audio output on the pi to the input requirements of the CB / match the output of your mic.

you could probably mimic the PTT switch using a relay, you just need to workout the PTT switch operation and mimic that using the contacts of a relay.
