Hey Everyone!!

Love this Project!!! 8-) And it has already got me to start learning Qt/QML to develop an application for the RazPi(I like this spelling the best btw).

Edit 12/14/11: Screenshot(more to come), and code up here: http://github.com/Shifty0x88/R.....ppLauncher

So basically this application will start on boot-up and be either part of the background or above it. If you have the new interface for Ubuntu, think the Dash Screen, iPhone and Android users, think Application Tray/Menu.

Basically just a tabbed Qt Application with a grid of applications in each tab for quickly locating applications on the system. Example Tab Names would be: General, Programming, Preferences, Possibly Others

One Application would get the following within the Grid on a specified Tab Page: Title, Icon, Application Description

Example Applications:

General:

terminal
gedit(or whatever)
firefox
chromium
etc.

Programming:

Code Blocks
emacs(?)/terminal
eclipse
geany(python)
Qt Creator
other IDEs(Ruby/Perl/etc.)

Preferences: Simply link to the System Preferences page for the OS of choice, or each individual component(ie: Resolution, Display, Screen Saver, etc.)

This is meant for: New Linux Users, New Programmers, Anyone who isn't a Linux Guru.

I currently have a prototype done, and am working to polish that up before I put it up on gitHub.com, so no code yet.

If you wanna help out E-Mail: [email protected] Anyone will experience with Qt, Linux, or GUIs/UIs and anyone that just wants to start a Qt/QML Project is welcome.

P.S. Anyone with QProcess experience would be greatly appreciated because I'm having trouble getting everything to work properly :D

Project is now on the web! Check it out:

http://github.com/Shifty0x88/R.....ppLauncher

Prototype is done. Now to clean up it, and add the real applications' links for the OS the Raspberry Pi Crew chooses. And to address it's limitations and expand it's functionality

Great idea mate, any chance of screenshots? :) Would be nice to check it out without having to download the source.

Sounds interesting! Is it kind like the Wii main screen (the channels)? I could see me using something like that in a media center install. Or at least that concept :)

+1 for the screenshot requests!

I have one pic of it up inside the docs folder right there in the root of the github.com project

abishur: It's kinda like the wii menu, check it out now.

Note: The reason that one Chromium Item is really long is because I clicked on it, and it expanded the box and the text as it grew longer. Then you can either double-click to launch the program you are looking at or single-click anywhere but that Chromium Item(I know I should probably make this click anywhere but it works like this for now) to collapse the Item back to it's original size, and hopefully look at another app too.

I know it's kinda ugly, and the code is probably worse but I'm working on it.

I think you should try and use the PNG version of the logo, and if you are using it - then use the transparency :) Just so you don't have the white around the edge. http://www.raspberrypi.org/wp-.....PGB001.png

Ah thank you liam I just happened to find that logo first and thought it was good enough for now... I guess I was being lazy =D

Thanks for the link, much appreciated ! =)

No worries, personally I would also scale it down using gimp or something like that so your program doesn't have to load the large resolution image... therefore reducing your memory usage a little :). Or have your program scale images down to an appropriate resolution when a new application is added. Every little helps!

Oh yes, that image you link to me way huge!! It filled up most of my screen so I definitely have to scale that down, while keeping the transparent background =D

added another screenshot with the new transparent images =D thanks again.

looking good :) I don't care if a program looks ugly as sin as long as it does what I need it to without hogging all my resources, and it's a good start for a quick and simple program launcherr.

I agree, light ugly and fast is better than bloated. I can't look at the screenshots at the moment but I'm sure they are great :)

Roger that. KISS right?

As soon as I can get my hands on a RaspberryPi I will go through the performance profiling and optimizations to make it as fast and efficient of a program as possible.

Thanks for the votes of confidence guys!! I thought no one was going to care after the way no one commented on my project for a while... maybe they were just waiting for the code though. I think I'll just believe that, it makes me feel better about myself =D

Any alternate options since that GitHub pages offline?

Are you seriously replying to a nearly seven year old thread? It's probably a good job that github page is offline because it's 100% guaranteed that it would be out of date.

It's actually still there. It does have a smell of death and decay though
