Hey Guys
I have been looking for a compatible 10" touch screen for the RPi and finally found my solution at Chalkboard Electronics. They are currently taking in pre-orders at a discount price. Just pre-ordered one even though I haven't recieved my RPi yet. Hopefully they will arrive around the same time.

If any other buys this solution then let me know. Pretty excited to get on with the development. Still coming closer to a solution for my project.
Re: 10" LCD LVDS bundle with capacitive touchscreen and ambi
I'm interested how the touch part works on that one.
EDIT : Hmm. It looks like the CPU is maxed out the whole time.

Re: 10" LCD LVDS bundle with capacitive touchscreen and ambi
Really wanna see these up close, im reluctant to order 1 from malaysia. But if u watch the youtube vid the PI is maxed at 100% all the time. Mine runs at 4% at idol and around 33% doing simple tasks. Im worried running at 100% constantly will fry the PI or at least reduce life span.

AFAIK 100 % CPU load for a longer time won't harm the Pis lifetime.
Overvolting does though.

Im very interested in how this project works out...have you any news since your post.
Re: 10" LCD LVDS bundle with capacitive touchscreen and ambi
Well that is nice to know that i wont fry my Pi, but if the touchscreen means running @100% then using the touchscreen and say a graphic front end to control the GPIOs or play something more indepth than bejeweled (thats the vid from chalkboards youtube link) would slow things right down.
OTOH Mayby when the touchscreen are more readily available there will be a less processor hungry driver or even raspbian with embedded drives that wont hog the CPU (just throwing ideas around)
Cant wait until a consumer has a touchscreen running and we can get a proper idea of how good/amazing the touchscreen is.

Re: 10" LCD LVDS bundle with capacitive touchscreen and ambi
That looks interesting. I guess the 100% cpu use is just a driver issue that hopefully will improve. But if its a problem for anyone, the screen can be used without the touch feature. It still looks like a good price for a small hdmi capable screen.
Makes me wonder how compact it is possible to make this with a custom case for the screen and the Pi as well as a rechargeble battery pack. And with a small keyboard in your bag this is a portable computer.

Re: 10" LCD LVDS bundle with capacitive touchscreen and ambi
No updates yet. I have not received the RPi nor the touchscreen.
Farnell informed me that the RPi is on it's way, and expecting the screen to be shipped within the next couple of weeks.

Hello guys, we found your comments about the CPU running 100% when we did our demo in youtube. This is due to the application that is running background before hand. Anyway, we have uploaded a blog and 2 new videos to clear up the confusion here.

Thanks for these video! It's good to know that the CPU is not an issue!
Do you know what are the delays if I order one now?

Ordered one at 30/8, and still waiting for a shipping confirmation. They are not so good at providing information at their webpage and their forum is terrible.
Did anyone receive their orders yet?
Many are complaining about missing deliveries and slow responses.

Re: 10" LCD LVDS bundle with capacitive touchscreen and ambi
Hello JF002, it is our pleasure to help all our RPi fans here. We are currently seeing a backlog of 2-3 weeks if you order one now. We are working very hard to clear up the backlog and get to normal mode now. However, if you order now, we will get discount for the pre-order which we will remove once we started smoothen our operation.JF002 wrote:Thanks for these video! We would also like to apologize to all that has been waiting for so long and we will get those backlog done.

Thanks for your feedback here. We are currently waiting for our LCD panels and components to arrive as they have been missing their lead time to us and in turn, we were unable to start our production. We promise that after this 2nd batch is out, it will be smoothen out. That is also one of the reason we offer discount to our pre-sales customer like you as a token of appreciation for your patience.
We hope to get this situation resolved by early October '12.
Thank you.

Re: 10" LCD LVDS bundle with capacitive touchscreen and ambi
Hey guys
Received my display today. Unfortunately it doesn't work but I am keeping my head high and hoping for a fix real soon. Found a suspicious missing legs on a PIC on the LVDS-board (see the image), so I wrote to Chalk-Elec and hope they will return with an answer soon.

Saw that one other guy called Wizard also ordered the same screen. Hope he has greater luck than me. Follow him here.

Bummer... :/
Mine should arrive within the next day or two and hopefully I have better luck.
What's the chip?
Perhaps it's something you can easily source and replace...

Re: 10" LCD LVDS bundle with capacitive touchscreen and ambi
Thats unfortunate, i went with a lilliput screen (669GL) and it arrived in a matter of days, after installing some software.
Downloading xinput_calibrator
and ./configure
make
sudo make install
and following the calibrate touchscreen tutorial (twice for some reason)
my touchscreen is amazing!
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install libx11-dev
libxext-dev
libxi-dev
x11proto-input-dev
and ./configure

Re: 10" LCD LVDS bundle with capacitive touchscreen and ambi
It is now up and running. Looking beautiful. Had to reinstall "Wheezy" and follow the guide, and now it is working perfectly. Will be back with test results later.
Re: 10" LCD LVDS bundle with capacitive touchscreen and ambi
Great to hear you're up and running!
Mine worked perfectly out of the box and I'm impressed so far
My touch tracking is somewhat sluggish... Is this something you've experienced as well?

Re: 10" LCD LVDS bundle with capacitive touchscreen and ambi
I just got 2 of these and yes they are sluggish to register touches. It's not the panels, it's the raspi, it's too slow! If you overclock it and force turbo on, the panels respond 200% better. We really need some decent working xorg drivers from Broadcom to make these things work better without over clocking.
Or is there someway to give touch events priority? Mouse events work fine.

Re: 10" LCD LVDS bundle with capacitive touchscreen and ambi
I received my 10" touchscreen from ChalkElec yesteday!
At first (and second... an third) sight, it is exactly what I wanted : touchscreen, nice image quality, HDMI,...
For those who are interested, I took some pictures when unboxing:

The image quality is very good, I had no problem connecting it,...
I simply followed the procedure from the ChalkElec blog : http://www.chalk-elec.com/?p=1576
I noticed 2 little problems, but I think they can be solved:
*The backlight would not turn on. As explained on the blog, I had to short 2 pins of the white connector. By doing this, the backlight switches ON, but it is flickering, the luminosity is not constant, even if the ambiant luminosity is stable.
* It's not easy to make a simple "click". When I touch the panel, it seems to handle the touch as a "touch and move" action. For exemple, if I click on an icon, it does not start the program, it move the icon on the desktop. I don't know if it is related to the configuration, the driver of the hardware. Note that I've already calibrated the screen.
For now, I'm still doing some tests, but globally, I'm very happy with the screen and I hope I'll find solutions to these 2 little problems.
If you want some more information, just ask

Re: 10" LCD LVDS bundle with capacitive touchscreen and ambi
I have just received the screen and touch screen from Chalkboard Electronics. Generally I am very pleased with it. Works very well on Debian Wheezy. Some minor problems with touch screen on XBMC. However when I attempted to run my system on the Android 2.3 port. I get no display. Android just about works on my 20 inch monitor. I have compared the files in the Boot partition between Debian and Android and I have isolated the problem to the start.elf file. The Debian file gives me a display which obviously then crashes. The Android file gives no display. I am intending to run my pi on Android ICS when it becomes available so it has to work.
Does anyone have any idea how to solve my problem?. I forgot to mention I have tried many combination of hdmi_safe . hdmi_group,hdmi_mode etc but still no display.

Thank you for sharing photos JF002!
Could you post a photo of the back of the screen? Are there mounting holes?

Re: 10" LCD LVDS bundle with capacitive touchscreen and ambi
Here is a picture of the back of the screen : http://postimage.org/image/5hk21ve3n/
I don't think there are any mounting holes.
I have some problems with the touch panel. It works, but not good enough (ghost touches, imprecise, difficult to make click/double click,...).
Can you tell me how yours behaves?
