How to use 1024x600 resolution ?

Sat Aug 18, 2012 4:11 pm

I have bought a small portable TV (Medion 83688) with a screen resolution 1024x600 and an HMDI input:

http://aldi.medion.com/md83688_01/nord/ ... tung_anker

Unfortunately the Raspberry PI (with debian) uses 1024x768 when connected to this TV, so the picture is scaled down :|

Can anybody help me to set-up my Raspberry PI to use 1024x600 resolution?

Unfortunately this is not possible currently.
1024x600 is not a standard DMT or CEA HDMI resolution, and so isn't supported. Only the standard modes are supported, shown here:
http://elinux.org/RPi_config.txt

There is a plan to allow arbitrary resolutions/framerates to be supported, but it probably won't be for a while.

managed to set up my 1024 x 600 display using these settings

edit your config.txt file typing

Code: Select all

sudo nano /boot/config.txt
here i filled in the settings from adafruit:

Code: Select all

# uncomment to force a console size. By default it will be display's size minus
# overscan.
#framebuffer_width=1024
#framebuffer_height=600

#hdmi_ignore_edid=0xa5000080
hdmi_cvt=1024 600 60 3 0 0 0

# uncomment to force a specific HDMI mode (this will force VGA)
hdmi_group=2
hdmi_mode=87
everything works fine!

Thanks this is a useful post solving my problem!
However I think your solution is a little wrong.
I think it must be:

Code: Select all

disable_overscan=1
hdmi_cvt=1024 600 60 3 0 0 0
You forgot a '60', which is the frquency of refreshing (Hz).

To whom might have same mistake that I made and fin out your screen is actualIy 800x480 not 1024x800, I found another similar solution here, and it solve my issue:
https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-5-8 ... pi-config
Basically just update/add the code in following:

Code: Select all

hdmi_force_hotplug=1

hdmi_group=2
hdmi_mode=87
hdmi_cvt=800 480 60 6 0 0 0
hdmi_drive=1
