PixelBrick - Real Time Train/Bus/Weather Monitoring Device

Tue Apr 19, 2016 6:16 pm

Got tired of phone notifications in the morning. I wanted to create a very simple wall-mounted device that could visually show me real-time updates about the things I care about most in the 20 minutes between me waking up and leaving the house. So - is the trains/bus/tube running on time and what is the weather like. Specially is it hotter/colder than yesterday and what is the chance of rain.

Running on RPi 2B and Sensehat. Using transportapi and wunderground. Highly customizable to user.

Next Step: Create a debian service so easy to install for someone else on a fresh device.

Video of it in action here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCMGQYA09s4

Comments/Thoughts/Cool enhancements welcomed.

Hi,

I think this is a really great idea, so handy. Do you have any tutorial on how you achieved this?

Very nice, jklondon. I'm a big fan of projects like this. I had the same requirement (ready access to useful information), we just went about it in different ways (viewtopic.php?f=41&t=121392)!
RPi Information Screen: plugin based system for displaying weather, travel information, football scores etc.

Thanks chaps. Working on a writeup of what/how this was done. Was trying to figure out some angle to commercialise it - someone suggested having a watch app...
