I'm just trying to wrap my head around the practicality of this setup..

Say I have the Raspi, a powered USB hub, and a battery pack designed to power USB device and is charged by USB...

Would I be mistaken that I could wire the HUB to be powered by both battery and adapter, and then power the Raspi from the Hub (and then of course hook the Raspi into the Hub as host?)

hooking it in parallel, would that just allow for the battery to go into charging? Or do I need a circuit to switch the battery offline and charge it when plugged in??

Some battery chargers have a mini USB for charging itself, and an USB female for charging stuff you plug in it.
So it would PROBABLY look like this: AC/DC adapter -> USB charger -> hub -> Raspi
