Not anything near a total solution to powering a R-Pi system w/ a display. Maybe a building block to start to understanding what is required.

What do you R-Pi'eans think; CoTS or HomeBrew?

I figured I'd run mine of a Solio panel (as a distant mountain backup server) with no display or input - all remotely operated.

But that one does look interesting.
