GSM shield/board?

Fri Oct 13, 2017 2:49 am

Hi all! I'm trying to outfit a pi 3 with a GPS usb adapter to transmit the location of my truck that I rent out. I want to send messages over the internet to a server listening at home. I'm in the US, and I am obtaining a SIM card from a carrier that uses GSM. Does anyone have recommendations for a shield that will provide me with internet service given the SIM? I saw one that was like $200, so that was out of the question. Thanks!

Since you are using USB for the GPS maybe consider the same for GSM.

Maybe even your carrier has a deal on such a device.

I know the state of the Cellular Network in US is complicated so will not even try to guess compatibility between GSM/3G/4G for you.

I originally was going to do that, but the only devices on amazon that I could find were either really expensive or were described in such a way that I didn't trust it at all (not the best reviews... description was in broken english... etc). I was hoping there was a agreed up good way to go here.
