Connecting Tonec 7" LCD to Pi

Mon Nov 03, 2014 11:31 pm

Good evening! This is my first post on the forums and I need a little assistance with my first Pi project.

I purchased http://amzn.com/B00HNLXZHO, a Tonec 7" LCD with optional touchscreen. The ribbon cable that comes out the bottom of the unit is only a couple of inches long, and I really need to extend it. I purchased a 50Pin to 50Pin ZIF 0.5mm connector adapter with extension flat cable, http://tinyurl.com/50to50ZIF, but when I power it on I don't get any response from the LCD. Am thinking that it isn't carrying enough power.

Thoughts? The extension is longer than I need - I only need maybe 3 more inches. The LCD is in a frame mounted on a small box. Inside the box is the Pi and board for the LCD. I just need the LCD cable to reach inside the box to connect to the Pi.

Appreciate any assistance!

Hello,
I am about to embark on a similar project, which is why I came to this post.

I know this might be a silly question but have you installed all the appropriate software and drivers?

I have read several posts on this forum about people having driver issues with Tontec TFTs and touchscreens. Most of them revolve around wrong or missing drivers for pi.
The info for this one seems quite complete however.
Are you connecting pi to screen driver board via hdmi? If so have you made sure you are not outputting to high a resolution for the screen to cope with? It's Max reso is 800x480 so if the hdmi output is higher it will probably just not work.

You did not mention if you have the screen working without the extension. If not I would get that working first.
Unless specified otherwise my response is based on the latest and fully updated RPiOS Buster w/ Desktop OS.

Sorry, yes, the screen is working correctly without the extension. Without the extension, everything works just fine.

The drivers needed are for the touchscreen, and I have not tackled that portion of the project yet. The touchscreen is not overly important to me, but I imagine I will use it at some point. I haven't started really using the screen yet, so I haven't determined how much I need that functionality, yet.
