Is it just me or is audio "to slow"

Sun Jun 10, 2012 9:53 am

Hello,

I just played around with squeezebox server/slave (squeezeplug image) and XBMC (OpenElec image).
I am using the analog audio output and it sounds to me that the audio is "to slow". The pitch is not correct.

It looks to me that it has to do with the latest firmware (updated with rpi-update (10-6-2012))

Anybody else has the same experience?

It seems to be me only than :oops:
After a reboot the problem is gone but sometime I have the issue.

I do not know why and when it happens.

Maybe its me and not my pi? :P

I don't have a pi right now, so I cannot really help, but if openal work on raspberry device, it should be fast. I will know when I will receive my pi in few weeks or months :(

I want to make a music program on linux/mac/windows and make the raspberry the primary test device.

Good luck :)

Let me bump this one :)

After all it seems that I am not crazy at all. :D
I found out that my "slow audio" had something to do with squeezeslave and 48Khz streams. Squeezeslave is not able to handle 48Khz streams but only 44.1Khz. So to play some 48Khz streams we need to resample the mp3 streams to 44.1Khz at the squeezebox server side.

To do this I have modified the last part of the mp3 trancoding part in the /etc/squeezeboxserver/convert.conf file

Code: Select all

mp3 mp3 squeezeslave *
        # IFB:{BITRATE=-B %B}D:{RESAMPLE=--resample %D}
        [lame] --silent -V9 --vbr-new --resample 44.1 --mp3input $FILE$ -
Now the audio sounds normal.

There is only one nasty thing: Lame takes 60% of my squeezeboxserver CPU. :x

So I have a question to the raspberry-pi community?

Would it be possible to write a simple "program" to resample mp3 to 44.1 Khz using the GPU? Maybe omxplayer?
I am not a programmer so any help would be appreciated.
The code in the /etc/squeezeboxserver/convert.conf file would something like

Code: Select all

mp3 mp3 squeezeslave *
        # IFB:{BITRATE=-B %B}D:{RESAMPLE=--resample %D}
        [pimp3GPU] $FILE$ -
Many thanks

Just want to let u know that GPU is purely for drawing graphic on the screen, and so, your request isn't even possible, at least on the Pi.

@killerbee thank you for the convert.conf tip, my similar problem is also resolved now. However sometime the song gets stuck midway and rpi would not start without a power reboot but that I believe may be a rpi / squeezeslave issue.
