Wirelessly Send Audio to Pi

Sat Mar 29, 2014 3:27 pm

Is there any way to send audio wireless from a windows computer to the raspberry pi? I am planning on building a raspberry pi FM transmitter, but would like my laptop's audio be broadcast.

A couple of bluetooth dongles? I dunno.
note: I may or may not know what I'm talking about...

It depends what you mean by audio, i.e. from playing mp3s or capture audio directly from the sound card.
Winamp can do both with the appropriate plugns and then broadcast this to the Pi via a Shoutcast or Icecast server.
On the Pi side you'll need a media player capable of online streaming which shouldn't be too difficult, however I'm not quite sure if any can be used to feed data directly into a transmitter unless it's a B-Link dongle.

I have not tried this but I think you should be able to treat RPi as a pulseaudio destination and then send audio to it from your Windows machine.

Shoutcast / Icecast (a reference to one of them above) is another route.

Might Shairport (https://github.com/abrasive/shairport) do what you want?
