Internet Radio Set

Mon Feb 10, 2014 12:59 pm

Hello all

First of all I am a beginner. I need an internet radio set that can do few things like play BBC iPlayer Radio and live streams of BBC and few Finnish radio stations.

Could I use the following setup to do that?

RPi + USB power supply + SD card with NOOBS + WiFi dongle + LCD-PI32 + speakers

Do I need anything else? (I think I have few keyboards and mice running around and a HDMI tv to set it up with)

Bonus question can that monitor be turned off while it's not needed?

I would personally look into building the Pi as a Logitech Squeezebox. You can install the iPlayer and TuneIn plugins which provide the features you need, and there's also a cool iOS and Android app to control which station is currently playing.

Check out http://plentyofgin.blogspot.co.uk for my recent project of building a Logitech Squeezebox based on a Pi.

Oh, and you can sync multiple Squeezeboxes together to provide Sonos style multiroom.
