Wiring Raspberry and amplifier not USB

Mon Dec 16, 2013 2:12 pm

I would like to buy an amplifier like this:

and I would like to connect to Raspberry...

Anyone can help me, show which pin on the raspberry pi I have to use?

Thanks a lot!

First off, have a look at the schematics, http://www.raspberrypi.org/wp-content/u ... .2_027.pdf

As you will see, the obvious place to attach that amplifier is through the 3.5mm audio jack. Its output is about 1v full-scale peak-to-peak, or about 350mV RMS, so you may need a pot between the Pi and the amplifier (the data sheet quotes 80mV for the amplifier input)

Since the amplifier seems to require up to 500mA it is unlikely that the Pi could supply it successfully, and so you should provide it with a separate supply.
However, that figure depends very much on the power supply voltage and the load impedance, as well as how hard you drive it. So with a high impedance speaker, and using only the Pi's 5v from the GPIO connector, it may work if you don't drive it too hard.

I don't recommend powering from RPi. It's dangerous and too noisy for audio.

Did you have any luck?
This man seemed to have hooked up an amplifier to his Pi.

I have an old 60's transistor radio that I would like to put a Pi into, and use as a portable audio player and am trying to figure out a reasonable way to get to amplify the speaker.
