Having trouble getting audio working

Mon Oct 07, 2013 6:36 am

Hi, just got my first RaspberryPi today and loaded it up with raspbian.

I'm having a bit of trouble getting the audio working. I am listening on the audio jack and can get some sounds to be played but not others. For example speaker-test, aplay, omxplayer and espeak work, but mpg321 and pianobar do not. I have the most recent raspbian distro so I don't know whats causing the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Code: Select all

[email protected] ~ $ aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav
Playing WAVE '/usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav' : Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Rate 48000 Hz, Mono
[email protected] ~ $ omxplayer bubbling_water_1.mp3
Audio codec mp3 channels 2 samplerate 44100 bitspersample 16
Subtitle count: 0, state: off, index: 1, delay: 0

have a nice day ;)
[email protected] ~ $ mpg321 bubbling_water_1.mp3
No default libao driver available.
[email protected] ~ $ pianobar
Welcome to pianobar (2012.05.06)! Press ? for a list of commands.
(i) Control fifo at /home/pi/.config/pianobar/ctl opened
(i) Login... Ok.
(i) Get stations... Ok.

This is where I started. It got me past some of the issues of switching audio from HDMI to the 3.5mm jack (at least the ones that worked) because I guess it thinks my monitor has speakers. I tried all the tests and configurations he mentioned, but I still can't get audio working with some of the apps.
Thanks!
