Re: MINIPI: Airplay receiver for your car.

I have been able to get the Pi up and running as a router and also as a AirPlay speaker; unfortunately, it will only work when connected via an ethernet cable to an existing network. i.e. The RPi network will appear and it will show the AirPi option under my AirPlay devices but it will not let me play.
The only reasons I can think of are:
- I misunderstood your statement about commenting out the DNS line
OR
- I should not have wrote in the commands to bridge the eth0 and wlan0... given that I don't think that applies to this application.
Any advice on what could be holding this back would be great! Also, if you could repost the image I'd appreciate it!

USB is fine for low quality playback (and if you can cope with an extra carbuncle out the back) but for best results try one of the many I2S Raspberry Pi audio cards.

I have updated the link in the original post. This is the same image just a different host. I am working on an updated version with the stable release of shairport, newest firmware, and some new tools. Once the new image is finished it will be post here along with the changes and updates.

Thanks,
Dirk.

Great image! Works like a charm and exactly what I was looking for.

Has anyone tried with a Wolfson Pi card? I have one and was going to try it.

Brilliant image, just what I wanted.

I used a TL-WN725N V2 wireless adapter on a Model A, which works after following the instructions in this link: http://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewt ... 82#p462982

Just need my 2A switching car power supply from Mausberry Circuits now and I'm good to go ^_^

I've also noticed that my setup works for iPhone, since it iOS lets you set a static IP without DNS. Once you do, you can stream anything you want while still having internet with your carrier's network. Now, Android always forces you to send Google's DNS and while that lets you stream you dont have your carrier's internet access.

Has anyone been able to solve this for Android?Any networking gurus that can help? I'm desperate right now.

This project is very very good!

It is fine on Raspberry Pi Zero.

Thank you @DirkPrefect.

I am sharing some useful change...

1 - For USB Dongle WiPi (chipsetRTL 5370)

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install hostapd udhcpd
sudo nano /etc/udhcpd.conf

Change to:
driver=nl80211
2 - Change AirPlay device name

Code: Select all

sudo nano /etc/init.d/shairport

Change to:
NAME=AirPlayName
3 - Solve error "Fail Starting ISC DHCP server: dhcpd[....] check syslog for diagnostics"

Code: Select all

sudo nano /etc/default/ifplugd

Change  'auto' to 'eth0':
INTERFACES="eth0"
HOTPLUG_INTERFACES="eth0"

4 - Audio Output - Auto HDMI and P2 working (http://elinux.org/R-Pi_Troubleshooting)

Code: Select all

amixer cset numid=3 0

I will leave here for reference the options to put in dnsmasq.conf to disable dns and routing.
With these options you can user internet via cellular data while connected to wifi and use shairport

Code: Select all

dhcp-option=wlan0,3
dhcp-option=wlan0,6
