Connect amplifier to Raspberry Pi HIFI DAC PCM5122 Expansion Board

Thu Dec 26, 2019 8:53 pm

Hello, for santa claus my son and I (complete raspberry newbe's) recieved an raspberry Pi 3B+, an amplifier and a HIFI DAC PCM5122 espansion board.

we have no idea how to install the amplifier.

We think the
"black connector" is power ?
"gold plated" connectors white and red are input (left and right)?
red switch on/off??
green button volume control?

output :absolutely no idea

So please who can help?

I agree with what you have supposed. The outputs will be close to those two rings with windings. Post a photo of the underside of the board.

looks like your amplifier has an output for a single speaker only
the terminal is the (+) and (-) near the coil.

better send the link to the site where you got it (if you got it from online store), so we can check the model and specifications of that amplifier board.

on side note, may I suggest replacing your amplifier with something based on a PAM8610 amplifier module
like this one:

as you can see its smaller (it actually is) than the amplifier module in your pictures.

Indeed, got it from a (chinese) online shop.
Unfortunately the direct link to this item no longer exists.

the only information available on this website

TDA7498E 200W x1 Class D Amplifier completed board WLX

Dissipation Power: TDA7498E ???
Supply Voltage: TDA7498E ???
Model Number: TDA7498E ???
Brand Name: WAVGAT ???
Operating Temperature: TDA7498E ???
Condition: New ???
Application: .
Type: .

Now i suspect the x1 in the product description means one speaker?

That seems to be the case....

but there is also a 160W + 160W version of that same amplifier chip, but its not the one you have.

and it requires minimum 14v and max 36v (to get max power 160W per channel output), in your case max 200W at 36v
you really need to to be that loud?
is this going to be a "party animal" setup? :o

IMHO, for a room amp the PAM8610 based amplifier module is quite loud enough ;)

or just connect your RPi + DAC to your existing mini / midi HiFi system and enjoy it immediately... :D

We (my son and I) recieved this package from Santa Claus. The plan is to restore a pair of self build VISATON speakers and turn them into a smart speaker set. Santa watched probably a dutch tweakers video / how to page with these products.

https://tweakers.net/reviews/7120/2/bui ... ncept.html

However, now we know this amplifier is not the right thing.
What do you recommend? The package came incluiding a 36V power supply

I've browsed on the attached link, and sure enough the amplifier shown there is different from what you have.

if you want, you may proceed with the project... but for 1 speaker only at the moment (or you may connect 2 speakers, but it will sound like mono)
you'll be able to start, have a good DIY quality time and enjoy immediately once the build is complete.

while you're doing that, get the same amplifier board as shown in the link you provided.
make sure that the new amplifier can be powered by 36v

once the stereo version of the amplifier arrives, you can swap it in, a little bit more modifying may be required for the standoffs.
then you can enjoy a stereo version.
