video encoder h264

Sun Dec 09, 2012 7:54 pm

i want to use a raspberry to encode live video from a videoswitch(sdi, s-video or composite)
It should be encoded to h264, transferred through a high speed internet connection to a videoplayer that can play that livestream(vlc) and feed it into our transmitter/encoder for cable television
Can a RPi do that,, and what software/hardware do i need?

I wouldn't bother with the PI the processing power and poor throughput of the USB just doesn't make it suitable for high resolution video encoding from a USB video capture device.

Pi Transcoding Cluster ,
currently only supports video streams over ethernet :

Product will be released in Q1 2013 , the featureset could
possibly be extended if you get in touch with the company
directly. Note : I do not know if they will sell the software
for individual nodes at all.

Disclaimer : Not affliated / not getting paid / don't ask me ,
ask them etc.

• Don't like the board ? Missing features ? Change to the prosilver theme ! You can find it in your settings.

Realtime GPU - accelerated
OpenMAX h.264 decoding AND encoding are free,
but require deep knowledge. The Broadcom specifics
are not properly documented , and the API alone seems
difficult to work with in the first place.

Also interesting :

The Toshiba TC358743 has been discussed pretty often on the forums,
but first the problems mentioned in above thread have to be overcome.
