Alternatives to RPi LCDs?

So, I've been shopping for a 7" LCD to attach to my RPi 3 B+ (or RPi 4). There are several screens out there in the $25-$45 range. I bought one and it turned out the viewing angles were horrible on it. More than 30 degrees off center and the image was completely washed out. But then I had a brainstorm (some would call it a wild-ass idea). There are screen replacements out there for repairing things like the Amazon Fire tablet, iPads, etc. in the $35-$45 range. Can these be adapted for use with the RPi? The optics on these screens is far superior to most LCDs that are plug-n-play with the RPi.

Maybe feasible, if you are not prepared to buy the Official Screen ?

If a non-touch screen only (no frame) and interface board were available from the RPi org for less than $40, I would be happy to consider it. But the official screen does not lend itself to product development. I don't need touch screen and the product I am developing will have a screen and RPi within a single enclosure.

I have ordered a screen from Waveshare that is IPS and connects via the GPIO. I'll see if the IPS screen performs better than the TFT I have now.

Have considered eInk screens?

Refresh is not super quick (though the Adafruit one are better than mine) but viewing angle is great, power consumption low and visibility good in normal light.

Many drawbacks - limited colour, zero night visibility and limited sizes...

I hope these guys can get they stuff out to hackers like us.

We just have to wait and see.
I have been waiting for decades.
I saw some fantastic daylight phone LCDs samples 10+ years ago, too expensive to go to mass production :(
