I'm a beginner also so my answer may not be the best, but here's my current setup:
I'm using a Pi 3 B+.
I needed to come up with full-screen looping video for a museum installation. I also wanted to make sure there was no on screen display or user interface. I played around with VLC but it always glitched on the loop no matter what settings I changed. I ended up using omxplayer from the command line. I'm using an mp4, but it should be able to play anything encoded with H.264 (.avi, .mov, .m4v, .mp4, etc).
Here's my command line code:
Code: Select all
omxplayer -o local --no-osd --loop /home/pi/Videos/video.mp4
I took it one step further and inserted that line in rc.local and it auto-starts on reboot. So far seems like a foolproof system for simple digital signage.
