Use RPi3 as Speaker control

Sat Aug 11, 2018 4:35 pm

Hi, Im new to this forum, and to the whole audio thing. Im looking to build a audio system that would go on my ceiling, and i've been looking some speakers. I found some, but searching the web for tutorials, i found some sites telling that the RPi audio from jak is not good. That was in some old posts, and I dont know if that has changed, so i would like to know what you thiink about it. An external amp like this one with 3.5 jack https://goo.gl/qJUSuf will be enough, or i should buy something like this, with direct GPIO connection?https://www.hifiberry.com/products/ampplus/
And also, if I would want more than 2 speakers, what should i have to do? Just a simple cable splice, or i would have to do something more?

Thanks in advance for your help, and also sorry for my poor English, I'm Spanish

¡Que tengas un buen día!

Bienvenido al foro

Sorry am not a native Spanish speaker, but can understand some

I have an RPi3B and, yes, the audio quality from the TRRS jack is not that good.

If you want a simple audio setup with just the RPi3B and set of 2 speakers, better go with the HiFiBerry Amp+

However if you want to add more speakers,
  • use RPi3B and HiFIBerry DAC+ (or any of its clones available from Amazon)
RCA Y-connectors (or make a DIY multiple RCA jack breakout board)
    • RCA Cable --- amp #1 --- set of stereo speakers
RCA Cable --- amp #2 --- set of stereo speakers

RCA Cable --- amp #n --- set of stereo speakers
I also recommend attaching a Ground Loop Isolator unit between the DAC and the RCA Y-connectors, to eliminate possible humming sounds..

BTW I have LP-2024A+ version, but I personally prefer the sound quality from the LP-V3S model

If you want to make it more lightweight, how about using Forgot to ask... what media player app are you planning to use?

¡Buena suerte!
