Miracast and the android transporter

Tue Oct 30, 2012 10:30 pm

Hi, if you, like me, like android, then maybe you have heard that with android 4.2, miracast (a technology very similar to android transporter http://www.raspberrypi.org/archives/tag ... ransporter but from the wifi alliance) is included, and that it is already available in some phones (like the sgs3). This means that a lot of people, including me :D, will have a phone capable of sending screen output wirelessly to a compatible reciever, such as a dongle. There are a few available however they are quite expensive.

My question is now if there is a way of making the pi work as such. The guys at ESR say that their software can be modified to cohere (is that the word for it? English is not my native language) to the specifications of miracast and that they are considering it. Since it is open source they also encourage people to help them. Do we have an alternative? I'm not only thinking about miracast but any technology that enables me to for example show pictures or a movie from my phone. And if the latency allows, play games.

Cheers

I am currently using a DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) program to show pictures from my mobile onto the Pi. Only two out of the three mobiles we have in the family work at the moment, but it is very easy to use.

I found that DLNA through xbmc was less than satisfactory for showing pictures. It took a long time to switch between pictures and you couldn't zoom.

What software did you use?

bjorn,
I would say yes. It should be possible with a wifi dongle to write something that is Mirracast compatible.
Im just going to start hunting into seeing if I can find the specifics of the protocol. If you find a good link could you please post it up here.

Cheers
