HiFiBerry DAC no sound

Tue Feb 13, 2018 12:28 am

I am trying to hook up a speaker using this amplifier: https://www.adafruit.com/product/3006. I have it soldered and hooked exactly according to this guide: https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-max ... y-pi-usage. The problem is that it does not play any sound. I was wondering if it was something with their guide, that maybe was missed or is it something I am possibly doing wrong.

It appears on the raspberry pi, because when I use alsamixer, I can see it when I choose soundcard. However, when I select it it gives me the warning: "this sound device does not have any controls". The inital soundcard is Pulse Audio, not sure if that makes a difference. Likely when I use aplay -l to view my devices I get the following:
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: sndrpihifiberry [snd_rpi_hifiberry_dac], device 0: HifiBerry DAC HiFi pcm5102a-hifi-0 []
Subdevices: 0/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
Any advice or suggestions, on what I could be doing wrong is greatly appreciated.

Paul

***EDIT***
Upon further reveiw, I saw another thread that suggested using aplay -L, this gives me the following:
[email protected]:~ $ aplay -L
null
Discard all samples (playback) or generate zero samples (capture)
pulse

I am noticing the PulseAudio Sound Server, could that be over-riding my amplifier?

https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-max ... y-pi-usage

looks like an error message or two that prevents the sound device working.
My other computer is a VIC20.
