Best way to set up my raspi as a music hub/server?

Tue Oct 10, 2017 6:36 pm

Hello!

I'm new to working with raspberry pi units. (Though I've already gone through the startup process/initial OS installation).

I am wanting to use the Pi as a database/home for music. I've found a couple things like volumio that accomplish almost what I want. Multiple phones/computers accessing it over the wifi and queuing songs to play etc, as well as having a list of music available from any harddrive hooked up to the pi. The one feature I can't find is that if I have a song on my phone, I'd like to be able to send it to the pi to store, then play it from there. How would I go about designing something like that? I've delved in programming and pick up languages fairly quickly, if that is necessary. Is there a system already designed that does that?

Hopefully this was the right place to put this
Thanks!

Hi there,

take a look here: https://sites.google.com/site/picoreplayer/home/news

Install the implemented LMS-Server (Logitech Media Server) to one of your piCores and make it, as the name already says your local media-server.
With this LMS-server on your piCore almost every thinkable audio feature gets possible:

- streaming music from your treasury-HDD to your local network
- integrate your Spotify / Deezer / Napster account
- make and enjoy playlists on several devices like cell phones, Blu-Ray-Players, HTPC (Kodi), Smart-TVs etc
- even multi-room audio is possible and with the right hardware, better and much cheaper than f.e. a S0N0S system! Check out here for the right hardware: (https://www.hifiberry.com/)
- compliant with all raspberry´s even the Rpi Zero W, with build-in Bluetooh and WiFi!

The piCore OS is quite easy to install, but you must do a lot of reading and try to understand what all features can do for you.
Here google is also your best friend: try to search f.e. "Logitech Media Server (LMS)", "SqueezeLite"

Good luck and welcome to your new addiction!

Only for interest: does 'picoreplayer' include this special feature?

A: What does the command 'cat /dev/urandom', can you tell me please?
B: Yeah, that's very simple: It feeds your cat with radioactive material!
