Pi3 + kodi + x11?

Wed Aug 23, 2017 2:01 pm

Hi,
I am about to compile kodi from source. My reason for this, is that I'd like to compile it without a --disable-x11 flag - so that I am able to control kodi through vnc. Has anyone tried that before? Are there any reasons to keep the --disable-x11 flag on a pi3? I am not too advanced but this seems to me like a remnant from the less powerful pis before.

The performance of the GUI will probably be quite crap if you force it to run using the X11 protocol. It only works as well as it does because it uses the GPU for accelleration, and that performance is not much different from a Pi0 to a Pi3.

To control Kodi over VNC you need a VNC server that can read the DispmanX framebuffer that is used. There is a option in the RealVNC server for this I beleive.
