Thu Sep 27, 2012 3:11 pm

I try to install VLC 2.0.3 on Pi, with source. (no internet connexion).

First i did :
./configure --disable-swscale --disable-postproc --disable-a52 --disable-alsa --disable-xcb -disable-dbus --disable-lua --disable-mad --disable-avcodec --disable-libgcrypt

After make and make install, no problem.

But when i want excute VLC i can't.

main libvlc error: interface "globalhotkeys, none" initialization failed
main libvlc: Running vlc with the default interface. Use 'cvlc' to use vlc without interface.

Same thing with "cvlc"

VLC is included in Raspbian.

However it's not very useful as it doesn't include the libdvdcss code, you have to download that separately.

Nor does it offer GPU-accelerated MPEG-2 decoding.

In theory, VLC should work with OpenMAX, and the Raspberry Pi supports OpenMAX, but at present omxplayer is the only media player which seems to be able to offer GPU-accelerated MPEG-2 playback.

Doh, that sucks! No wonder VLC runs so badly. Any chance of mplayer getting support? I need to be able to use controls (ff, play, stop, pause, etc) without shelling in.
